TASMANIA GOLF CLUB

Tasmania Golf Club’s members could justifiably be described as friendly, welcoming and passionate about golf generally and the Tasmania Golf Club course in particular.

In a recent survey of members, more than 80% of all respondents stated that the design of the golf course was amongst their top 3 reasons for joining Tasmania Golf Club in preference to any of the other 66 golf clubs in the State.

Tasmania Golf Club is home to a number of the State's leading golfers, the captain of the Men's State Amateur Team, the coach of the State Amateur Team, the coach of Tasmania's only National men's representative and the course is one of only 2 championship courses in Tasmania.

The combination of a great course design, extensive practice facilities, regular competition and the availability of quality coaching and skill development programs makes Tasmania Golf Club highly attractive to juniors, beginners and to promising golfers of all ages.

COURSE ETIQUETTE

No one should move, talk, stand close to or directly behind the ball when a player is addressing the ball or making a stroke.

Mobile phones are not permitted on the course, however they are permitted in the clubhouse.

Players are to report to the starter at least 10 minutes before their hit off time in any Competition. If you are unable to take your place in the field, you must notify the starter as early as possible. Late notice is considered unacceptable except in unusual circumstances. Non-notification causes disruption to other players and will not be tolerated by the Club. The starter will be authorised to penalise or disqualify players who are late for their starting time. The starter is authorised to be responsible for the final grouping of players within a competition field.

The player with the lowest handicap in any playing group will be the Captain for that group and is responsible for the observance of The Rules of Golf, Local Rules and Course Etiquette.

All players are to carry a sand bucket to fill all divot holes. Divots should be replaced and covered with sand. Ball marks on the green MUST be repaired before leaving the green to play the next hole. Please take care not to damage the lip of the hole when removing and replacing the flag stick. The head of the putter should not be used to remove the ball from the hole. Foot and club marks are to be raked out before leaving the bunker. The bunker rake should be left in the bottom of the bunker. Please try not to walk on the lip of a bunker and, where applicable, do not walk on the face of a bunker unless playing a shot.

When the number of strokes that a player is allowed is exhausted for each hole, during a par or stableford competition the player, must pick up and continue onto the next hole.

ORDER OF PLAY

All competitors in Club Competitions have equal rights regardless of number of players in the group. Groups of four shall be the maximum number.

When a booking sheet is not in operation, order of play will be the order in which the groups arrive on the tee ready for play after first reporting to the Pro Shop.

SCORE CARDS

Each player, as soon as practicable after the completion of each round, shall place HIS OR HER OWN SCORE CARD in the competition box.

It is the responsibility of each player to ensure that their cards clearly show their Name, Membership Number, Correct Handicap, Start & Finish time and that the correct score is recorded for each hole and that the card is signed by both the player and marker.

LOCAL RULES

Local Rules and Temporary Local Rules are as printed on the score card and posted on the notice board from time to time.

CALLING UP AND PLAYING THROUGH PROCEDURE & CALL-UP HOLES

When a group is looking for a ball that may be lost or has not yet been spotted, they must immediately call the following group to hit up. If all members of the group in front have left the fairway to search for a ball, the group behind may assume that it has been called up. The called up group will then play their shots without delay. If the front group are still not ready to play when the called up group reaches them, the called up group shall play through. If the front group are ready to play before the called up group reaches them they will continue to play on. In all cases, the players in the front group who are aware of the location of their balls should play their next shots BEFORE they go to assist in the search for the lost ball.

Remember, the purpose of this rule is to speed up play and save time. Common sense shall prevail in the interpretation of this rule.

1st HOLE – Call-up Hole: On all players reaching the green, the group should move to the side and rear of the green and call players on the tee to play. Where possible the group on the green should note the finishing positions of the teeing player’s ball.

2nd HOLE – Safety Hole: On reaching the “top of the rise” the shorter hitter should remain in sight of the tee while remaining players play to the green. Once all players are clear the player at the top of the rise should call the group on the tee to play. Teeing players MUST allow time for the player in front to be clear.

PRACTISING ON THE GREENS

Players are to refrain from playing practice shots to any green other than the practice green when practising. Players are not allowed to play more than two balls on any one practice round. The putting green nearest to the seventh tee may be used to practice lob shots providing it is not being used for putting. Members are requested to use the new practice chipping area where possible.

CHILDREN

Children other than Junior Members must be under strict adult supervision at all times and are not permitted to play on the course, putting green or around the Club House.

VISITORS

No visitor is able to play in major club trophy competitions but is most welcome to play in normal club competitions provided they are a recognised member of a golf club, have paid any green fees involved and meet our dress & behaviourial standards.

In all cases, a playing visitor must carry their green fee receipt in case they are asked for proof of payment. If found to be without the receipt they will be asked to leave or pay the appropriate green fee with a $50 penalty. In the clubhouse all visitors shall sign the Visitor’s Book.

It is preferred that all Reciprocal Playing Rights shall be arranged before hand with the General Manager but they will be accepted if there is space in the field of the day if not.

Visitors may also be asked to play off specific tees that relate to their handicaps to ensure play is not disrupted or slow.
