Tasmania Golf Club
Claremont Shield Winners

Tasmania Golf Club's team of Mark Schulze, Richard Kube, Andrew Phillips and Nathan Gatehouse has won the 2010 James Boag Claremont Shield by an astonishing 19 strokes.

Playing at Devonport Golf Club, Schulze and Kube carded a one under par round of 69 in the foursomes whilst Phillips and Gatehouse returned a credible 74; enough to give Tasmania an overnight lead.

But it was on Sunday that Tasmania really dominated with State Captain Schulze shooting a 6 under par 64 in the morning to go with Kube's 70 and Phillips' 71 with Gatehouse's 75 discarded under the event's rules where the best 3 scores make up the team total.

The final round again saw some excellent golf with Kube returning a 69 (for an individual total of 139), Phillips 71 (142), Schulze 72 (136) and Gatehouse 73 (148).

Tasmania Golf Club also picked up the Eric Bourke Memorial Trophy with a combined net total of 481 (-9).

Division 1 Pennant team members Craig Christie and Tom Wallace were also in action at the Claremont Shield as members of the SMGA representative team.

Christie and Wallace scored 74 in the foursomes and Christie shot 70 then 73 for a strong 143 total with Wallace returning scores of 79 and 76.

The result is a credit to the team and augers well for the 2010 Senior Pennant season that commences on Sunday, 21 March 2010.

Men's Pennant teams are shown on the "Club News" page of this website.

World Class Experience

Bounded by water on three sides, the spectacular Tasmania Golf Club is set on the picturesque Barilla Bluff, just 15 minutes east of the Hobart CBD and only 2 minutes from the Hobart Airport.

The par 72, ACR 72.9, 6,214 metre course was designed by Al Howard and opened for play in 1971. The result is a challenging, undulating course characterised by well bunkered, breaking greens that reward well thought out approach shots.

Tasmania Golf Club has hosted many significant events including the Australian Amateur Championship and the Tasmanian Open. On many such occasions the course has proved more than equal to the best professional players.

Of course, Tasmania Golf Club is primarily used by the members lucky enough to be able to play here every day. The course is open for play all year round and is at it’s best in the late spring and autumn when the Tasmanian climate is well suited to a challenging day’s golf.

In addition to the outstanding golf course, Tasmania Golf Club is well serviced with a welcoming clubhouse comprising full locker room facilities, expansive bar and dining areas, an adjoining deck area overlooking the 18th green and a well stocked pro-shop.
